故事背景在現代，話說於每一個世代都會出現一個年青的女孩子，在人世間尋找及對付一些妖魔鬼怪，例如有吸血鬼、壞女巫等等邪惡的勢力，而這個年青的女孩子則被稱為Slayer，亦即是本劇中的女主角——Buffy。故事的開始是因 Buffy在L.A.的學校中捉拿吸血鬼的時候把整個體育館弄倒了，故被學校踼了出來，之後她的母親Joyce與她搬到加州名叫Sunnydale的一個地方生活，但原來這一切也是命運的安排。
